Netronome - Intelligent Network Flow Processing
Netronome is a leading supplier of highly programmable semiconductor products that are used for intelligent flow processing in network and communications devices. Netronome’s solutions include tightly integrated network flow processors and acceleration cards that scale to more than 20 Gbps. They are used in carrier-grade and enterprise-class communications products, as well as virtualized servers and appliances that require deep packet inspection, flow analysis and content processing, all at very high speeds for millions of simultaneous flows. Netronome is headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with core operations in Santa Clara, California and Boxborough, Massachusetts, and international operations in the United Kingdom, China and South Africa.
Target Markets
Network traffic in both enterprise and carrier networks continues to rise, driving the bandwidth requirements to 10 Gbps today, with work already underway for higher speeds at 40 Gbps to 100 Gbps. This exponential growth has been fueled by a combination of the increase in individual users of the network, more devices and endpoints on the network (PCs, servers, mobile phones, IP phones, IP set top boxes), the convergence of numerous applications and services on a common IP network (VoIP, IPTV, P2P, Web 2.0, NAS), and the increase in bandwidth demands by those applications.
These trends have placed significant emphasis on increased performance and scalability on the network infrastructure that transports these applications and services. Today’s network designs are required to move L2-L3 packets at line-rate 10 Gbps and beyond. They also require intelligence at L4-L7 without impacting performance or introducing delay. The L4-L7 capabilities are driven by requirements for content inspection, application awareness and integrated security processing for a growing number of applications and services. Networks are becoming intelligent, and eventually every packet from every flow of communications services will be intelligently processed.
In addition to the changes within the network, the endpoints of the enterprise and service provider data centers are also evolving. The servers and appliances that provide these applications and services are also required to increase their networking performance and intelligence. At the same time, they are becoming highly virtualized, creating a need for an intelligent NanoNetwork™ that provides the same type of intelligent, but virtualized, networking within the virtual machine.
